The Council organises a number of events throughout the year,
including the 10K Road Run in March, in conjunction with RAF Brize
Norton and supported by Foxbury Farm and the Midcounties
Co-op, the Schools Swimming Gala in July, and an Extreme Wheels
Days at the skateboard park in Upavon Way in August. St. George’s
Day is celebrated in April each year with a Mayor’s Reception
or Dinner. In recent years the celebration of St George has also
included a competition for local school children, and in 2010 they
were set the task of making a mechanical knight which was capable
of being pulled along and included an element of movement. The photograph
on this page shows the entries received.
On the Sunday closest to 11 November, there is a Service of Remembrance
at St John’s Church followed by a parade to the War Memorial
in Alvescot Road.
The switching on of the town’s Christmas Lights takes place
late November/early December each year and includes a street fair,
a children’s funfair, charity stalls, refreshments and carol
singing.
The Town Mayor holds a number of receptions and other events during
the course of the year with a view to meeting members of the local
community, fostering relations with neighbouring towns and villages,
and raising money for his chosen charity. See www.carterton-tc.gov.uk/news
