In 2003 the Town Council, working in partnership with the Countryside
Agency’s Market Towns Initiative, carried out a Healthcheck
of Carterton. This involved consulting widely with residents from
both the town and the surrounding villages to establish their priorities
for the next 10 years. The findings were published in a report,
Carterton Fast Forward Towards 2010, which identified a number of
projects that were taken forward by the Carterton Fast Forward Project
Manager. These projects range from the development of the town centre
to setting up a Community Cinema and preserving the heritage of
the town. The town has been awarded Beacon Status by the Countryside
Agency for this work.
