Burntwood Town Council is one of the largest Town Council’s
in the country with a rising population approaching 30,000 according
to the 2001 Census.
The Town Council has the same functions as a Parish Council, including
consultation and recommendation on planning applications, grant
aid and championing the cause of local organisations or groups where
support is needed for the benefit of the community. The Town Council
places great emphasis on community safety and has been at the forefront
of establishing and funding many projects including new street lighting,
CCTV and the Community Wardens.
The Council has 22 elected Members, who are elected for a four year
term, and who cover seven individual wards. The Town Council meets
six times per year and on such other occasions as are deemed necessary.
There are ten meetings of the Planning Applications Committee, one
meeting of the Grant Aid Committee and the Best Value Committee
meets on an ad hoc basis.
Members of the public are welcome to attend meetings and further
information, including the names and addresses of Councillors can
be obtained by telephoning 01543 677166.
