the help point - here to help you

help point logoBurgess Hill Town Council’s Help Point is run by a friendly, dedicated team. Initially set up as a ‘One Stop Shop’ for local government enquiries, we have expanded our services steadily to include a Tourist Information Centre and also work in partnership with Mid Sussex District Council, West Sussex County Council, Pension Service, West Sussex Primary Care Trust (NHS), Downland Housing Group and Tourism South East. Many of our partners hold surgery sessions in the Help Point. We aim to provide you with immediate answers to your questions but if we cannot, we will put you in contact with someone who can.

To contact the Help Point call in to 96 Church Walk or phone 01444 247726, fax 01444 233707, e-mail: helppoint@burgesshill.gov.uk or visit www.burgesshill.gov.uk

Frequently asked questions:
How can I get concessionary travel? If you are 60 years old or over (ladies and gentlemen) or suffer from a qualifying disability, you are entitled to free bus travel and reduced rate rail travel. For more details on how to obtain these, simply call or visit the Help Point.

Where can I find out whether I am entitled to Housing or Council Tax Benefit? A Benefits Officer from Mid Sussex District Council holds a surgery three times a week at the HelpPoint on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9.00am and 12.30pm and Wednesdays between 2.00pm and 4.00pm. No appointments are necessary.

I would like information on the schools in Burgess Hill. Admissions for Burgess Hill are dealt with by the Local Education Office. Contact them on 0845 075 1007 for more details or visit the education pages at www.westsussex.gov.uk

There is a pothole in the road outside my house. How can I report it? Contact the Help Point. A member of the team will take some details from you such as the precise location and approximately how deep it is. A member of Burgess Hill Town Council’s Mobile Maintenance Team will inspect and carry out the repair if appropriate. However, if this is not possible we will forward the matter to Area Highways at West Sussex County Council for them to action.

I am new to the area and need to register with a doctor and a dentist. How can I find them? The Mid Sussex Primary Care Trust produces a leaflet called ‘Your Guide to Local Health Services’. The Help Point stocks these leaflets, plus many more, to help you find out more about the local area.
