Burgess Hill Town Council’s Environmental Charter forms
the basis of the Town Council’s approach towards a sustainable
and healthy environment for its residents.
The Town Council’s Environmental Issues Forum acts as an environmental
‘think tank’ and monitors the implementation of the
Environmental Charter. It also develops a wide range of environmental
initiatives.
Two areas of open rural land are being maintained in their natural
condition for the enjoyment of the town’s residents. Bedelands
Farm to the north of the town is owned by Mid Sussex District Council
and is managed by the Friends of Bedelands Farm.

In 1993 Burgess Hill Town Council purchased land at Batchelor’s
Farm to the south of the town. The 39 acres of pasture-land affords
breath-taking views south towards the neighbouring villages and
the South Downs beyond.
Batchelor’s Farm and Bedelands Farm are linked by the ‘Green
Crescent’, which surrounds the town with open space.
