Where better to enjoy a leisurely walk, a
bit of a ramble, or go off road with the bike, the Burgess Hill
Green Circle Network is waiting to be explored! On certain sections
of the network horse riders are also able to enjoy the fun.
From
what started as a suggestion by the ‘Friends of Burgess Hill
Green Circle Network’, Burgess Hill Town Council, working
in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Mid Sussex District
Council and other agencies has brought the project to life.
The Green Circle is a joined up network of green spaces in and around
the town to provide a protected place for wildlife and for the enjoyment
of nature and provides a traffic free route with footpaths and cycleways
in a circular route around the town, together with ‘spokes’
that lead into the town centre.
The ‘spokes’, which mostly use existing paths and Public
Rights of Ways, are routes to encourage residents and visitors to
walk or cycle to the main attractions of the town, i.e. shops, places
of work, railway stations, business parks, schools, health centres,
leisure facilities etc. The routes accommodate various modes of
sustainable transport, including pedestrians, cyclists, disability
scooters, wheelchairs and prams/pushchairs.
Further details of the Burgess Hill Green Circle Network including
the route and information on
the Friends of Burgess Hill Green Circle Network are available at
Burgess Hill Town Council’s Help Point or visit www.burgesshill.gov.uk/greencircle.
Also available at the Help Point is a varied selection of walking
and cycling leaflets and maps, including the ‘Walks around
Burgess Hill’ (4 circular routes starting/finishing from Burgess
Hill Railway Station and Wivelsfield Railway Station).
Whilst enjoying the countryside don’t forget to respect the
wildlife and work of the countryside and follow the ‘Countryside
Code’.
Get out there and discover what’s on your doorstep!
