BROMYARD
WELCOMES YOU
GREETINGS FROM THE MAYOR OF BROMYARD AND WINSLOW,
CLLR. MR JONATHAN LESTER
I am very pleased to welcome you to our town, situated in England’s
beautiful countryside. For over a thousand years Bromyard had been
the focal point for people living in an extensive rural area, offering
services to a widespread agricultural population, a market town
community, and the many visitors to the town.
Remnants of drovers’ roads, tollhouses, and the railway lines
remind us of past times. Bromyard town centre has hardly changed
in a century. It is easy to find medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian
buildings when walking in the town. It has retained the charms of
a traditional market town, whilst moving with the developments of
modern times. Visitors will find a host of individual shops and
places of interest. With its cafes, bakeries, local butchers and
pubs the visitor is able to enjoy a more traditional shopping experience.
There are a variety of places to stay. There are Black and White
timbered hotels, pubs, comfortable farmhouse rooms offering bed
and breakfast, as well as camping and caravanning facilities which
can all be found within a few miles radius. The Tourist Information
Centre (01432 260621 located at the Bromyard Centre at the top of
the High Street will be able to help you find accommodation.
Bromyard is famous for its festivals. Both the Bromyard Gala and
Folk Festival are national events that attract people from far and
wide. These are long established traditions that provide Bromyard
with its sense of identity. The more recently established Town Crier’s
event goes from strength to strength. Bromyard is also very proud
of its impressive Christmas Lights. The switching on of the Lights
is always a magical event and very well supported by the local community.
Bromyard is the perfect destination to provide an ideal escape from
the hustle and bustle of larger cities. With its friendly atmosphere
and uniqueness Bromyard is well worth a visit.
On behalf of Bromyard and Winslow Town Council, I wish you a very
pleasant stay and I hope that you enjoy all that our Town has to
offer. We look forward to seeing you again and again.
With every good wish,
Cllr. Jonathan Lester
