Greetings from the Mayor of Bromyard
and Winslow, Cllr. Mr Jamie Jacobsen
As a Bromyardian, born and bred, I am pleased to invite and welcome
you to a wonderful Herefordshire secret: my home town. For over
a thousand years, Bromyard has been a focal point for people living
in an extensive and beautiful rural area, offering facilities and
services to a widespread agricultural population, a market town
community, and the many visitors to our town. It is quite simply
‘the jewel in the Downs.’
Remnants of drovers’ roads, tollhouses and railway lines remind
us of times past. In fact, Bromyard town centre has hardly changed
in a century. It is easy to find medieval, Tudor, Georgian and Victorian
buildings in a walk round the town. It has retained much of its
historic charm whilst also providing modern entertainment and facilities
which prove popular with its visitors. They will find a wide selection
of interesting and unique shops, be refreshed with a choice of pubs
and restaurants to have a drink or meal, and discover what makes
this little town a great place!
There is a wide variety of accommodation for visitors: black and
white timbered hotels and pubs, elegant town houses, comfortable
farmhouse rooms offering bed and breakfast, as well as camping and
caravanning facilities which can all be found within a few miles
radius. The Tourist Information Centre (01432) 260621
will be delighted to help you find a peaceful place for your stay.
Bromyard is famous for its annual events such as the Gala, the Folk
Festival, the Community Scarecrow Festival, the Town Criers’
competitions and the impressive Christmas lights. They attract visitors
from far and wide who can only marvel at what happens when a community
works together. Such dedicated volunteers are a rare find!
Bromyard is the perfect place to escape from nearby cathedral cities,
the Malverns or the Marches. So on behalf of Bromyard and Winslow
Town Council, I wish you a pleasant stay in Herefordshire’s
best kept secret!
With every good wish,
Cllr. Jamie Jacobsen
