Mangerton Mill: 2 miles north east
of Bridport beside a stream feeding the River Asker has a tea room
with some craft workshops, a working water wheel, a collection of
bygone machinery and a fishing lake with caravan and camping accommodation.
Mapperton House and Gardens (near Beaminster):
award winning manor house.
Beaminster Museum: covers the local
history of Beaminster and the surrounding villages.
Broadwindsor Craft Centre: has a number
of craft shops and a restaurant that is open for morning coffee,
lunch and afternoon tea.
Abbotsbury: The Swannery and Tropical
Gardens, St Catherine’s Chapel, also craft shops in the village.
Charmouth Heritage Centre: situated
on the beach, has displays and information about the geology and
fossils of the area.
Chesil Beach: Naturally formed storm
pebble/shingle bank, also Fleet Lagoon (13KM)
Lyme Regis: fishing harbour with the
historic Cobb, fossil shops, Philpot Museum.
Weymouth: Sea Life Centre, Nothe Fort,
Time Walk, Harbour.
Portland Bill: the southern most tip
of the Isle of Portland, overlooking the English Channel. The present
lighthouse was erected in 1906, and also houses the Visitor Centre,
open during April to September.
Dorchester: Dorset County Museum, The
Roman House, Tutankhamen Exhibition Museum.
Neighbouring villages: including Bothenhampton
and Walditch, Burton Bradstock, Chideock, Symondsbury, Whitchurch
Canonicorum, Wootton Fitzpaine, Melplash, Loders, Shipton Gorge,
Askerswell, Litton Cheney, Puncknowle, Swyre and West Bexington
are all attractions in their own right and several of them represent
archetypal West Dorset settlements. The parishes of Allington and
Bradpole also adjoin the parish of Bridport.
There are numerous walks taking in the beautiful countryside, which
is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offering
breathtaking views of the coastline known as the Jurassic Coast
(World Heritage Site).
National Cycle Network Route 2 runs through the area.
