THE MACE
The
Town’s Mace is made of silver gilt. Its top is in the form
of the State Crown surmounted by a Maltese Cross. It was presented
to the Town to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V and is valued
at £12,500.
MAYOR’S JEWEL The Mayor’s Jewel is made from 18ct. gold
and shows the Town Crest.
It measures 2.75in. by 3.25in. Made in 1902 at the Accession of
Edward VII and is valued at £4,500.
THE MAYOR’S CHAIR
This hand-some piece of furniture was made by one of the Town’s
former Mayor’s Councillor John Farmer (1897-1899). It was
built in 1897 and is valued at £1,320.
THE MAYOR’S ROBES
The Mayor’s robes are made from red wool with black velvet
embellishment and fur collar and sleeves. It is valued at £600,
it is still worn ceremonially at the annual Mayor Making and each
monthly Council Meeting. It is complimented with a bicorn hat as
well as a ruff and chain.
