Brackley Community Carnival is the largest one-day event held in
the town and falls on the second Saturday of June. The day begins
when the noisy and colourful procession made up of walking and motorised
floats accompanied by marching bands makes its way from the Brackley
Sawmills at the north of the town via the Northampton Road into
the Town Centre. With roads closed specially for the event spectators
line the route and a large crowd gathers in the Town Centre to cheer
the floats in.
Situated in the heart of the town just off Market Place, the grounds
of Magdalen College School, St Johns Site, provide a spectacular
location for an afternoon of family entertainment. As well as providing
a stage for local performers the Carnival always boasts a line-up
of leading arena acts with something for all tastes and ages. Combined
with a host of charity and commercial stalls, food outlets, funfair
rides, a bar, teas by the WI, a six a-side football competition,
exemption dog show, bouncy castles and many other attractions Brackley
Community Carnival makes a great family day out.
The Carnival is organised by a group of volunteers who also organise
the Italian market that visits the town annually. In April 2008
they also launched a Festival of Food to focus on local food producers.
All these events rely on the hard work of a small number of dedicated
volunteers, the support of the local business community and schools
and the people of Brackley and the surrounding area. If you would
like to get involved at any level or have an idea for an event in
the town please contact the organisers either via the Town Hall
or through their website at www.brackley-carnival.co.uk
