The tidal marshes of the Wash, which fringe the east of the Lincolnshire
Fens, have for many years been a popular draw for birdwatchers,
nature lovers, walkers and cyclists. A popular attraction to the
area is the RSPB reserve at Freiston Shore, which is a 12 hectare
lagoon with islands. Visitors to Boston’s salt marshes can
explore large swathes of former farmland some of which the sea has
been allowed to reclaim, to attract wading birds.
One occasional visitor to the reserve is Professor David Bellamy,
Honorary President of Fens Tourism. David, who has an affinity for
the fens and feels that… “the region is rich in history
and unique in what it has to offer tourists, particularly those
looking to get away from it all for a short while”. And how
can you not be instantly drawn to the breathtaking views? This is
the land of sunsets and sunrises, and when the odd storm does decide
to rear its ugly head, take a look at the colours it creates - simply
natural and beautiful.”

To help visitors to make the most of a visit to the Boston Wash
Banks the local RSPB group produce a year round programme of events
and activities. For details contact the RSPB - Boston Wash Banks
Office on (01205) 724678 or via the web site at www.bostonwashbanks.com
