Welcome to Boston

Boston is a great blend of the past and the present. It has an extraordinary, rich history that can be traced back to 645AD, when Botolph established a monastery on the banks of the River Witham.
It has excellent facilities for today’s visitors and if you take the time to explore Boston you will be amazed by what it has to offer.

A very popular open-air market, which is the largest in Lincolnshire, is held in Boston every Wednesday and Saturday and attracts people from the surrounding area. Also on Wednesdays there is the open-air auction on Bargate Green, which is a magnet for buyers and spectators wishing to witness this time-honoured curiosity.

The Marshlands and mudflats to the south and east of Boston, towards the Wash, are of international importance for nature conservation. The River running through the centre of Boston is tidal and there is still a thriving commercial dock.

Boston has major road links via the A16 (Grimsby, Peterborough) the A17 (Kings Lynn, Newark) or the A52 (Nottingham, the Midlands and the A1/M1 motorway is in easy reach. Trains to the main East Coast lines at Grantham connect Boston to the rest of the country.
