Beverley in Bloom

The Beverley in Bloom committee aims to provide communal floral decorations throughout the town. Spring bulbs and evergreen varieties have been planted in the communal planters throughout the town centre, which have received many positive comments from residents, who have appreciated a splash of colour during colder months. In addition, the group has liaised closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council in the hope that any new developments of community space will include floral displays for the enjoyment of all who frequent them.

bloom Overall, Beverley in Bloom and its small but dedicated group of volunteers continues to try and make real and positive differences to the look of the town. With more funding and greater community input more could be achieved, but with current resources the group does the best it can to help make Beverley look bright and colourful through the spring and summer months.

A main element of Beverley in Bloom, is the annual town competition, with residents, shops, community groups and pubs all entering into friendly rivalry. Every year the local judges are bowled over by the quality of Beverley gardens. It has also been wonderful to see many shops and businesses (especially those local to the town) also take part to brighten up the town centre. In particular, there is strong competition amongst pubs, which are now doing more than ever before.

Beverley in Bloom also works with a variety of residents groups, schools and youth-based organisations and have carried out several very successful bulb and tree planting days. These events have seen children and young people coming out in force to help improve their neighbourhoods. It has also provided opportunities for residents young and old to work together for their own community.

The group is always looking for new ideas and volunteers, so if you have green fingers or would like to suggest new projects Beverley in Bloom could get involved with, please do not hesitate to contact them via the Town Council (Tel: 01482 874096 or email clerk@beverley.gov.uk). The group will endeavour to work towards winning Yorkshire in Bloom and hope that residents continue to enjoy the floral displays they provide, helping to create a bright and pleasant place in which to live.
