The Town Council operates from the Town Hall in Bridge Street. The
Council consists of 22 members, one of whom is elected each year
as Town Mayor. The Town Mayor, whose forerunners date back to 1608
and the granting of the town’s second Charter, plays an important
role in town life acting as an ambassador between the Town Council
and the general public.
The Town Council strives to improve the quality of life for people
living in Banbury and enhance the attractiveness of the town as
a place to live, work, visit and invest.
It has adopted the following corporate objectives:
• To provide a strong voice for Banbury
• To preserve the traditions, character and identity of the
town.
• To promote Banbury as a clean, safe and prosperous town.
• To provide high standard and cost effective services.
• To work in partnership with others to achieve more for Banbury.
The Town Council is responsible for:
Civic events promoted by the Town Mayor, Town Hall, Grants to Voluntary
Organisations, Crime Prevention Initiatives, Recreation Facilities,
Allotments, Provision of Cemeteries, Parks, Open Spaces and Play
Areas, Litter and Dog Litter Bins, Bus Shelters, responding to Planning
Consultations, Banbury in Bloom, Town Publicity and Tourism, By-Laws,
War Memorial & Public Clocks and a variety of annual events
