Ashby
de la Zouch has grown substantially over recent years. The opening
of the A42/M42 in 1991 placed Ashby in a strong road communications
link with the M1, M6 and more recently the A511 to Stoke on Trent.
Nottingham East Midlands Airport, currently the third largest airport
cargo gateway is expanding rapidly, and is only 11 miles away from
Ashby.
These factors have attracted many companies to relocate to the area,
and two prestigious Business Parks have developed on the outskirts
of Ashby town. Flagstaff 42 is an impressive 45-acre park already
accommodating a Tesco Superstore and petrol filling station, Ashfield
Health Care Ltd and United Biscuits Distribution Services, employ
in excess of 350 employees.
Ashby Park, a 40-acre site opposite to Flagstaff 42, has attracted
Transmitton Ltd, Hill Rom and Nolvara plc, reaching a total employment
of over 500 employees. Nolvara is the first call centre on the site,
bringing the new concept of telephone centres to Ashby.
Further into the town centre on Smisby Road there are further substantial
employers in the KP Foods, Express Dairies, Standard Soap and Andover
Controls, to name but a few. A new industrial estate has been opened
on Smisby Road.
With massive inward investment into the area, the raising of job
security and the relocation of employees, there has been an increase
in the need for executive housing. Both house prices and rental
prices have increased in recent years and more recently these increases
have been in excess of the national average outside London.
The dramatic restructuring in the economy in the area over the last
20 years took place with the decline of the coal industry. This
decline encouraged diversification and reinvestment of both Government
and Private Sector money. The two business parks have increased
the town's distribution and transport sector, and regionally 29%
of all jobs are now within this growing area.
Ashby de la Zouch is now poised for further expansion as Flagstaff
and Ashby Park continue to develop and the Bypass around the town
centre makes access and egress to sites more appealing to all companies.
