Sunninghill
Parish Council, established in 1894 had the name of Ascot included
in 2004 to reflect and identify the area it covers and represents.
The parish encompasses the villages of Cheapside , South Ascot,
Sunninghill and the larger community of Ascot and North Ascot in
which the racecourse has a dominant physical presence.
The area is surrounded by greenbelt land and is in close proximity
to Windsor Great Park, providing an extensive recreational area
of woods and parkland.
Commuters are within easy reach of the M3,M4, and a rail
service from Ascot Station to London and Reading. The parish is
approximately 20 miles from Heathrow Airport and 30 miles from central
London. It is situated in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
The area is still characterised by large houses set in spacious
gardens and small village communities retaining their Victorian
charm. However, the popularity of the area has meant that modern
houses and blocks of flats are replacing larger houses in some areas.
The community is served by a local hospital at the Heatherwood Roundabout,
a number of village churches and excellent schools. The village
of Sunninghill
and Ascot High Street provide a good variety of shops.
The parish currently has a population of 12,000 and the Parish Council
is the voice of local democracy within the community.
